Western Washington University invites applications for a split position
in Liberal Studies and History as a two-quarter visiting Instructor of
Islamic Studies, beginning on January 3, 2011. The successful candidate
will teach three sections of a 5 credit introductory course on
Humanities of Islamic Civilization in the Department of Liberal Studies
(this course meets General University Requirements and introduces
students to the Arabic and Islamic Studies minor ; a sample syllabus is
available upon request); and will also teach two or three sections of 4
or 5 credit GUR and/or upper division courses related to the applicant's
field in the History Department.
Required: ABD, training in social or cultural history of an Islamic
society, ability to teach an introductory course on Islam and on variety
in Islamic cultures as well as upper division courses in the candidate's
field.
Preferred: Some classroom teaching experience, and the ability to teach
African history.
