The DA office in Banha continued its investigation in the report, made by families of the arrested Quranists against the Ministry of Interior Affairs, regarding the reasons behind the arrests and knowing where they are detained.
Adel Ramadan Rafea, the lawyer and the representative of the Egyptian Initiative for Human Rights, said that the report includes charges for the Ministry of Interior Affairs of unlawful arrests of citizens and unlawful search of their house by the members of the State Security service. Rafea added, “We demanded that the Minster of Interior Affairs to tell the locations in which they are detained and to allow their families and lawyer to visit them and allow their lawyer to attend the investigation with them. Also, to get information if there were any charges of arrest and house search or not.”
The wife of Mahmod Abdullatif Said (one of those who was arrested and the half-brother of Dr. Mansour) described the arrest of her husband as being scary, saying that the security forces attacked their house at 2:30am Tuesday, stating they were from the 2nd police department in Shubra. She said that the forces included 10 members wearing uniforms and they had machine guns, and there were many others wearing civil clothes with guns. Before they entered the house they broke the door's peephole and took books, CDs, notebooks, cassette players, and her husband’s cell phone. "After they left," she said, "the neighbors told me there were additional forces on the roofs of adajecent houses."
Dr. Abdul Fattah Assaker, the Islamic writer and one of the Quranists, said that the reason for the arrests might be adding Saad Eddin Ibrahim, Chairman of Ibn Khaldoun Center and professor of political sociology in the American University in Cairo. Adding him as a writer on Ahl-AlQuran website could be one of the reasons to explain this arrest. Assaker added, “Adding Saad Edin Ibrahim as a writer in Ahl-AlQuran website was the biggest mistake by Al-AlQuran, because he is known for his anti-Egyptian interests," indicating that the Egyptian security Service operates with a database.
As for the Quranists denying AlSunnah, Assaker said “The real AlSunnah is the actual implementation of the Quran, and who denies it denies the Quran as well. The Quranists are against that, against anything that contradicts with the Quran even if it was falsely attributed to the prophet Sunnah,” indicating that there are many Ahadith that contradict with the Quran. He also added that the Quranists believe in the practical Sunnah, like praying and Hadjh, indicating that it came through practical actions not just writings.
Gamal AlBanna said that the Quranists attitude of denying AlSunnah is not accurate, as there are many Ahadith that are very high in perfection and objectivity “and I admit they are very few, so that is why the Quranists have an excuse,” saying that many wrong Ahadiths have been added to the AlSunnah andthese wrong ones. AlBanna added “Using these wrong Ahadiths is one of the reasons why Islamic nations have reached such a status.” He also confirmed that does not mean we should take the extreme way of denying all of the Sunnah. He added “the Quranists took the easy by considering to be the Quran the only source of Islam.” He denied Abo Hanifa and Mohamed Abdul were Quranists, saying that they are enlightened and they denied Ahadith while the Quranists deny the Sunnah.
AlBanna added “The Quranists deny the verbal Sunnah. All Ahadith that was mentioned in the books, but they believe in the practical Sunnah, like praying because the prophet was seen praying and all Muslims have been praying the same since then.” About the history of the Quranists in Egypt, AlBanna said they appeared in the 2nd half of the 20th Century by Dr. Ahmed Subhy Mansour, Dr. Mohamed Almoshtohry, and Dr. Ismail Mansour; but Almostohry and Mansour went in the dark while Dr. Aubhy Mansour continued. He went to the US as an asylee, leaving many of his family members in Cairo.
Dr. Mohamed Rafaat Othmal, the professor of legislation in Al_Azhar University, said “anyone who denies AlSunnah is not a Muslim, as it is the 2nd source of legislation in Islam after the Quran.” He added that there is nothing that allows Muslims only to use the Quran. The text in the Quran is clear, saying that the prophet can make legislations that side with God’s legislations.
