Five Days after the General Prosecutor’s Decision to Release them, The State Security still holds the Quranists in Custody!
Adel Rafee, one of the attorneys in the case of the Quranists and the representative of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, said that although a decision was made to set the arrested free and in spite of transferring them to State Security precinct [As part of the procedures to set them free], the Quranists are still imprisoned while the whole procedures should not take more than 24 hours.

The Five arrested Quranists were transferred last Sunday morning to their local State Security precinct to arrange for the release decision which was issued last Saturday Morning. Rafee added that “Four of the arrested were transferred to State Security precinct in Shubra, while the fifth was transferred to Lazoughli precinct. As for Amr Thrawar, who suffers from painful swelling and pyemia, went to the hospital last Tuesday to check on his leg in the Alqasr Aleeny hospital under heavy guards in spite of the release decision.”
Mahmoud Ibrahim, on of the attorneys and the representative of Alandalus Center for the Studies Tolerance, stated that the Attorney Office issued this decision in accordance to the statute of legal procedures because of the lack of evidences to continue arresting the Qurnists. He added that “till the point, no decision was made regarding the case of Contempt of Religion, whether to transfer to court or to preserve it.”
