Presidential hopeful Mohamed ElBaradei called for abandoning religious slogans in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He added that abolishing the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated mottoes such as "Islam is the solution" and other religious slogans is necessary.
At a meeting with members of the fledgling leftist Popular Alliance Party on Wednesday, ElBaradei said," If we brush religious slogans aside and dig deeper, we’ll find out that the disagreements are not as wide as they seem."
He added that religious factions that view the adoption of democracy as a violation of Islamic Sharia must be treated as outsiders since national powers have reached a consensus in this regard.
ElBaradei added that there is “no disagreement over the principles of the Islamic Sharia and its purposes” and called for political powers and new parties to generate unified lists of candidates for the parliamentary elections.
ElBaradei criticized the lack of continuous communication between the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and the people. He called on it to achieve greater transparency and grant powers to the government to achieve revolution’s goals.
The SCAF said it "will not stay in power more than 6 months," ElBaradei said, adding that the period has already elapsed without any progress.
The process of drafting the new constitution is becoming unnecessarily confused and complicated, ElBaradei complained.
ElBaradei also revealed that he is currently working at three levels to unify all political powers, encourage investments and create a clear vision of the current situation to achieve the objectives of the revolution.
