Egyptian Assistant Defense Minister Said Elassar gave remarks and took questions at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, DC. He’s part of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, a military council that has governed Egypt since former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was forced out.
In recent weeks, protestors have returned to Tahrir Square calling on the military council to prosecute former Mubarak officials more swiftly and demanding more clarity on the upcoming parliamentary elections. 150 people were injured in recent clashes, according to the Washington Post.
