EVENT DETAILS
Yemen's power structures are under great strain as the political elite struggles to adapt to nationwide demands for a more legitimate, responsive, and inclusive government. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, with significant financial resources, strong cultural ties to Yemen, and important informal connections, will play a critical role in Yemen's future. A new Chatham House briefing paper, "Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf States: Elite Politics, Street Protests, and Regional Diplomacy," examines this complex relationship against the backdrop of the Arab Spring.
Ginny Hill will discuss the issues in the paper. Carnegie’s Christopher Boucek will moderate. A light lunch will be served at 12:00 p.m.
Speaker
Ginny Hill runs the Chatham House Yemen Forum, a specialist global network that pursues policy solutions for Yemen. Ginny advises governments, non-profits and the private sector on security and politics in Yemen, and she regularly contributes to radio and TV programmes. She is an associate fellow at Chatham House. Hill is formerly an award-winning filmmaker and correspondent, who has reported for the BBC and al-Jazeera English.
