Court turns down case against ElBaradei over 'betrayal of trust'
Nasr City Misdemeanor Court on Saturday turned down a lawsuit accusing former Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei of betrayal of trust when he resigned his post in August.
Sayyed Atiq, law professor at Helwan University, had brought the case against the Nobel laureate, claiming that ElBaradei, as a leader of the opposition National Salvation Front and other revolutionary forces, betrayed the trust of these groups when he resigned his post without consulting them.
ElBaradei resigned in protest at the bloody dispersal of sit-ins demanding the reinstatement of toppled President Mohamed Morsy in mid-August. Security forces killed hundreds when they moved in on month-long protests in Cairo and Giza rallying for Morsy's release and return to power.
"As a man of law, ElBaradei knew certainly that the right to protest was guaranteed by consecutive constitutions, yet, he turned a blind eye to violence and terrorism by the Muslim Brotherhood and thier supporters during those protests," Atiq had claimed.
