Dear Madam/Sir:

Following the letter sent by the President of the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development (Rights & Democracy) inviting nominations for the 20th presentation of the John Humphrey Award, I am pleased to let you know that the deadline for nominations has been extended to May 15th 2011.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that we have made some changes to our selection criteria to better reflect our dual mission of democratic development and promotion of human rights. For example, it is now possible to nominate a politician or a parliamentarian, provided they also meet all other eligibility requirements. I also want to remind you that this Award consists of a

$30,000 grant and a speaking tour of Canadian cities to increase public awareness of the laureate’s work.

Furthermore, to highlight the 20th presentation, this year’s Award will also be presented by an internationally-renowned figure.
