Court to decide on suspension of April 6 Movement’s activities on 28 April

Cairo Court for Urgent Matters set 28 April to issue the verdict in the lawsuit demanding suspension of April 6 Movement's activities, a judicial source said.

The lawsuit was filed by lawyer called Ashraf Saeed demanding suspension of April 6 Movement activities, accusing the group of smearing the image of the country and espionage.

The verdict could be challenged at the appeal court for urgent matters within 15 days. Although the appeal does not suspend the sentence, the plaintiff could submit challenge demanding the suspension of the verdict until the appeal is reviewed.

April 6 Movement was founded in 2008 as an opposition against deposed President Hosni Mubarak. It was then divided into two movements (April 6 - Ahmed Maher Front, April 6 - the Democratic Front) due to conflicts over the management method after the 25 January revolution.

Ahmed Maher, one of the founder of the group, is currently serving a three-year sentence for protesting without permission, which violates the new protest law, which was enacted in November. A challenge to the ruling by Maher and others will be reviewed on 7 April.
