Spain freezes €45 million from Hussein Salem's bank accounts
MADRID, Spain: Spain has frozen €45 million from the bank accounts of detained Egyptian businessman Hussein Salem, said Spanish police.
Salem's frozen assets include properties in Madrid and Coast of Sol worth around €10 million.
According to the Europe Press Agency, Salem, his son Khaled Ismail and Tunisian citizen Ali Acivicin, who has an official position in Spain, have been arrested in Mallorca over economic crimes.
The agency said Salem's detention came after a request from the high court of Spanish prosecution.
Egypt sent Spain a request to arrest Salem, who is accused of wasting public funds and cheaply exporting gas to Israel during the former Egyptian regime.
Salem, Ismail and Acivicin will be investigated on Friday before the Spanish high court.
The chairman of the Egyptian Interpol, Magdi el-Shafei, said Salem and his son will be transferred to Cairo after all transfer procedures are finished.
Salem flew out of Egypt eight days before Mubarak stepped down.
