What:

Families seeking the return of abducted children or the enforcement of their legal custodial rights across international borders are confronted with many challenges, which are often exacerbated by the lack of bilateral or international treaties. This is especially true of cases between citizens of the U.S. and of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) because almost no MENA country has signed the Hague Convention regarding child abduction. During this lecture, leading experts on international children's issues and family law will outline current avenues for preventing and resolving these cases. Panelists will also discuss possible improvements to the current system and will take questions from the audience. The lecture will feature Ambassador Susan Jacobs who serves as the Special Advisor to the Office of Children's Issues at the U.S. Department of State and Abed Awad, an expert on Islamic family law with experience in international child custody dispute resolution.

Light fare will be served at 5:30 PM.
