21 arrested in Fayoum over attacks on police

Twenty-one suspects were arrested in Fayoum on charges of attacking army and police forces.

Defendants stand accused of breaking into Fayoum's police department and Ibshawai police station, as well as looting the station and attacking army troops and police officers.

The Interior Ministry is leading a campaign to arrest suspects involved in violence against the army and police.

In Fayoum, three local leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were reportedly among those detained. They face charges of inciting violence.

Defendants have been passed on to prosecutors while authorities look for other suspects.

Since the dispersal of sit-ins started by supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy, violence has risen in Egypt.
