Congressman Waxman Signs on to Nowruz Resolution

February 22, 2010, Washington, D.C. –  Following a meeting with PAAIA on February 17, 2010 in Los Angeles, we are very pleased to report that Congressman Henry Waxman has announced his decision to cosponsor the Nowruz resolution (H.Res. 267). The resolution recognizes the cultural and historical significance of the Persian New Year and expresses appreciation to Iranian Americans for their contributions to U.S. society.

A Cause for Celebration: UN Recognizes March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz!

February 25, 2010, Los Angeles, CA - At its 64th plenary session held on February 18, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz. This is a cause for celebration for the more than 300 million people around the world -including Iranian Americans- who welcome the New Year on the first day of spring.

Happy 10th Anniversary to Shabeh Jomeh from All of Us at PAAIA!

February 25, 2010, New York, NY - Shabeh Jomeh, a networking organization for Iranian professionals, celebrated its 10th anniversary on February 19, 2010. Tamilla Ghodsi (center), Shabeh Jomeh founder and PAAIA board member was on hand, along with Iman Bacodori (L), head of Shabeh Jomeh New York and Shaheen Ensanyat (R) -both PAAIA/NY Chapter Leaders, who helped organize the party at the Manhattan A-list celebrity hot spot Greenhouse USA.

NexGen Mixes It Up

Santa Monica, CA, February 24 - On Thursday, February 18, PAAIA NexGens from L.A. and Orange County gathered at the Huntley Hotel Penthouse in Santa Monica for their monthly mixer.  A diverse group of over thirty people, members and prospectives turned up for this fun and hip occasion.  Amir Bagherpour, the organizer, says these events cater to a wide range of people:  “We break the demographic barriers; it’s both students and professionals, twenty-something to forty-something.” A NexGen himself, he’s organized over six events in the last year, ranging from a visit to the Getty Villa to hikes at Temescal Canyon.

U.S. Government Takes Note of Iranian Americans

February 24, 2010, Washington, D.C. – On February 12th, the U.S. State Department published an article highlighting the Iranian American 2010 Census Coalition’s efforts, including PAAIA’s, to mobilize the community for the upcoming 2010 Census. Currently the Iranian American 2010 Census Coalition has grown to include 30 organizations from around the country. 


 

 

 

 
 
 
 

Update: LinkedIn to Reverse Iran Exclusion Policy

February 22, 2010, Washington, D.C. – Today LinkedIn’s legal department notified PAAIA that following our request, the company would be reversing its policy of excluding Iran from their Education drop-down menu. We are grateful to our members who had originally brought this matter to our attention, and to LinkedIn for their prompt response. We hope to see Iran back on the site so that LinkedIn account holders who hold academic degrees from Iran may include that information in their profile.
