The Result of the Dominance of Both Clergymen and the Culture of Slaves: Because his Mother is an Israeli Jewish Woman, he Cannot Marry my Daughter!
Introduction:
1- This email message has annoyed us very much; we have decided to reply to it in an article form.
2- Here is an excerpt of the email message of its male sender: (... When I was living in my native country, Egypt, I bought (along with some friends of mine) a stretch of land in the desert near the city of Belbeis, in Al-Sharqiyah Governorate, to reclaim it; it became fertile after lots of efforts and when the first crops grew, some military officers in the Egyptian army unjustly confiscated the stretch of land and drove me and my partners out of it! when I and my partners refused such injustice and resisted it, we got imprisoned! Once released, I immigrated to the USA. After much had work, I am now the happy owner of a supermarket in my new homeland, the USA, and later on, I got acquainted with an Arab young man and he helped me in my business for a while; i.e., he was the one who brought goods to my supermarket. Yet, once I came to know that his mother is an Israeli Jew, I stopped contacting him and severed all relation and dealings with him. Unfortunately, behind my back, this Arab young man dated my daughter and asked her to be his wife! Once I knew about it, I became furious and worried at the same time; of course, you know that the Jewish people consider any man a Jew only if his mother is one, even if the man himself is not Jewish. I shudder at the thought that an Israeli Jew brought goods to my supermarket; I had to face him when I knew about his intention to marry my daughter; I talked to him frankly and listened to him attentively; he told me his father was a Palestinian Muslim who married his mother, the Israeli Jewish woman, in Israel and then they immigrated to the USA and he was born here; he is an American citizen. Yet, since he lost his father to death years ago, he received a conservative religious Jewish upbringing from his Israeli mother; I think that he knows nothing about Islam and he is hardly related to his Arab origin! I do not think he is interested to follow the religion of his late Palestinian father. My Egyptian Muslim daughter insists on marrying him! I fear that if I would tell her about my refusal to give my consent to her marrying this Jewish young man, she will stubbornly defy me and marry him without telling me! You know, of course, Dr. Mansour that young women enjoy too much freedom inside the USA. My cultured daughter (she has obtained an MA degree in Middle-Eastern studies) reads your writings in the English section of your website; she tells me has read on your website that it is OK in Islam that Muslim women marry non-Muslim peaceful men. Yet, I hate very much that I would allow my daughter to marry a man whose mother is an Israeli Jew! My refusal is also based on the fact that his Jewish mother taught him Judaism; he is likely to act as if he is an Israeli Jew and not as a Muslim young man who should have followed the religion of his late Arab father! Since my daughter is an avid reader of your writings, I would like you to write to her a piece of advice; I want you to tell her to severe all relations with this young man whose mother is an Israeli Jew. In fact, the young man himself has a high moralistic character and a very successful career, and he is kind and good-natured; yet, I dread allowing my daughter to marry him because of his Israeli mother, especially that he is very much attached to her and he takes care of her in her old age. Hence, it is most likely, I believe, that she has a great influence on him; he is, or will be, an Israeli Jew; his mother will have negative influence on my daughter if she would marry this young man! ......... Thank you ...).
OUR REPLY:
Firstly: shame on you!
1- Your only 'fault' in your daughter's fiancé, in your own erroneous viewpoint, is that his Jewish mother is an Israeli! The fault is your own culture, stance, and upbringing and not in your daughter's fiancé! You need to be re-educated and you require to change your culture and worldview to the better; you must get rid of the religious culture of the polytheistic Muhammadans and the Egyptian culture and mentality of slaves which you have acquired! Your extremist stance drives you to turn the merits and good qualities of your daughter's fiancé into a fault; i.e., he takes care of his mother in her old age, and yet, you condemn such good behavior! Shame on you!
2- We might have sided with you only if your daughter's fiancé is a corrupt, bad young man and you have proofs about such corruption and bad character. What you have mentioned in your email message is that your daughter's fiancé is a good, successful young man with a good career. In fact, we implore the Lord God that your daughter will marry him and that their marriage will be a success.
Secondly: the culture of slaves acquired by you in Egypt is the cause of your stance:
1- Today is the 23rd of July; i.e., the 68th celebreation of the 23rd of July 1952 coup d'état in Egypt (renamed as a 'revolution'!). So far, the military rule in Egypt has destroyed the country and made it reach the lowest levels of ruin and collapse; the military rule in Egypt has spread in it a very corrupt culture whose main features include the dominance of Sunnite clergymen over the minds of most Egyptian citizens and the hatred towards others who have different religious denominations. Before the 1952 coup d'état, the Egyptian society was secular and liberal; clergymen never dominated Egyptians at the time; the Egyptian society at the time enjoyed cultural and racial diversity; many people of different religious denominations coexisted peacefully and harmoniously; at the time, several Europeans (especially Italians, Greeks, Armenians, and the people of the Balkans) immigrated and settled in Egypt. This diversity made Egypt achieve progress to a great extent in several fields. Yet, this diversity ended when Gamal Abdel-Nasser came to power in 1954 with his nationalization, Egyptianization, tyranny, oppression, and torture. Among his many grave errors/crimes is that he turned Al-Azhar institution into a governmental institution; thus, he paved the way for the collapse and ruin of Egypt for the decades to come after his death in 1970 until now.
2- The Arab-Israeli conflict in the 1950s and 1960s was the pretext of the military rule in Egypt to consolidate and reinforce its authority and power; the military generals who ruled Egypt at the time spread this empty motto: (There are no voices allowed to be louder than the voice in the battlefield). Hence, within such a weak pretext, those who criticized or opposed the military rule/regime were accused of being traitors who betrayed Egypt by siding to the 'enemy' (supposedly Israel) and of being agents of the West powers to destroy Egypt. Later on the Nasser regime was defeated in the Six-Day War in 1967 when Israel invaded the Egyptian Sinai peninsula (it was restored to Egypt seven years later in the 1973 war and peace accords were drawn later on between Egypt and Israel in 1978). The Nasser regime spread the conspiracy-theory culture which has continued in the Egyptian society until now; i.e., all calamities, setbacks, and failures in Egypt are assumed to be caused by the conspiracies of the USA and Israel against Egypt; this propaganda aims at diverting the attention away from the real cause of chronic problems suffered by Egyptians: tyranny. Until now, the brainwashed masses in Egypt assume that to love Egypt and to side with it means to declare enmity towards Israel and the USA; such animosity is coupled with Wahabi Sunnite sentiments. Hence, every evil in Egypt is blamed on Israel by the brainwashed masses who receive this deception from the media, the mosques, and in education curricula. In fact, few Egyptians know the fact that every Egyptian enthroned tyrant prostrated to the USA and Israel secretly while allowing the Egyptian media to demonize both countries. Israel emerges victorious in all battles against Egypt, Arabs, and Palestinians since 1948; Israel is in a state of war since 1948; yet, there are no marshal laws or emergency laws in Israel. In contrast, Egypt faced no real wars against an external enemy after the 1973 war to restore the Sinai peninsula; yet, the emergency law is still there because the generals of the military regime see that their real enemy is the Egyptian nation itself (or the so-called "internal front" as per the Egyptian media which supports the military rule). Since no wars or battles are fought now by the Egyptian military forces, the military generals who monopolize power and wealth point their weapons/arms (and the might of the security and military apparatuses) only at the unarmed Egyptian citizens. Yet, the poor and impoverished Egyptians glorify the name of their enthroned tyrant who oppresses them! This is not the mentality/culture of free persons. This is the mentality/culture of slaves!
3- You left Egypt and settled in the USA because of the injustices you have suffered in Egypt; yet, your mentality is still influenced by the culture of slaves. The Israeli mother of your daughter's fiancé has never harmed you; she never committed any injustice against you; yet, you consider her as your enemy for no reason at all! You refuse you daughter's marriage to her son for her merely being an Israeli Jew!
Thirdly: your stance has nothing to do with True Islam (i.e., the Quran itself):
1- Let us suppose that the Israeli mother of your daughter's fiancé is a bad woman; in such a case, her son who is praised by your own words in your email message is never to blame; otherwise, you will be violating this Quranic rule: "No burdened soul can carry the burden of another..." (35:18). Of course, this Israeli Jewish mother of your daughter's fiancé is a very good woman since she brought her son up in an excellent manner; the proof of this is your praise of him in your email message to our person.
2- The Israelis, Arabs, Turks, Europeans, Asians, Indians, Africans, Americans,...etc. are not angels or demons; they are merely human beings; they include good people and bad people; most human beings on earth in all eras commit bad deeds and perform good deeds. Hence, it is never objective or fair to assert a negative, generalized view regarding a certain nationality, race, nation, or people.
3- There are three Israelite women who have high stature/position in the Quranic text.
3/1: The Israelite woman who was the mother of Mary; we find the following in the Holy Quran about her and about her family (i.e., the family of Imran) who were Israelites; we notice that the Lord God mentions her and does not mention her husband: "God chose Adam, and Noah, and the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran, over all humankind. Offspring one of the other. God is Hearer and Knower. The wife of Imran said, “My Lord, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, dedicated, so accept from me; You are the Hearer and Knower.” And when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, I have delivered a female,” and God was well aware of what she has delivered, “and the male is not like the female, and I have named her Mary, and have commended her and her descendants to Your protection, from Satan the outcast.”" (3:33-36).
3/2: The Israelite young girl Mary is mentioned in the following manner in the Holy Quran: "Her Lord accepted her with a gracious reception, and brought her a beautiful upbringing, and entrusted her to the care of Zachariah. Whenever Zachariah entered upon her in the sanctuary, he found her with provision. He said, “O Mary, where did you get this from?” She said, “It is from God; God provides to whom He wills without limits.”" (3:37); "The angels said, “O Mary, God has chosen you, and has purified you. He has chosen you over all the women of the world. “O Mary, be devoted to your Lord, and bow down, and kneel with those who kneel.”" (3:42-43); "The angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a Word from Him. His name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, well-esteemed in this world and the next, and one of the nearest." (3:45); this is about the Israelite young woman Mary after she became the mother of Jesus: "And she who guarded her womb. We breathed into her of Our spirit, and made her and her son a sign to the world." (21:91); "And Mary, the daughter of Imran, who guarded her womb, and so We breathed into her of Our Spirit; and she believed in the Truth of her Lord’s Words and His Books, and was one of the devout." (66:12).
3/3: The Israelite woman who was the mother of Moses was inspired by the Lord God: "We inspired the mother of Moses: “Nurse him; then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and do not fear, nor grieve; We will return him to you, and make him one of the messengers.”" (28:7); "She said to his sister, “Trail him.” So she watched him from afar, and they were unaware. We forbade him breastfeeding at first. So she said, “Shall I tell you about a family that can raise him for you, and will look after him?” Thus We returned him to his mother, that she may be comforted, and not grieve, and know that God’s promise is true. But most of them do not know." (28:11-13); "When We inspired your mother with the inspiration.`Put him in the chest; then cast him into the river. The river will wash him to shore, where an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his will pick him up. And I have bestowed upon you love from Me, so that you may be reared before My eye. When your sister walked along, and said, ‘Shall I tell you about someone who will take care of him?' So We returned you to your mother, that she may be comforted, and not sorrow..." (20:38-40); this means that the main characters here in the story of the baby Moses are the Israelite mother and the Israelite sister; the father of Moses is never mentioned in the Quranic text; even when Aaron experienced the wrath of his brother Moses, he told him the following: "...Son of my mother, do not seize me by my beard or my head..." (20:94); thus, we read here that Aaron mentions their mother and not their father.
4- Most people tend to forget these excellent, great examples of Israelite women mentioned in the Holy Quran. Most people tend to forget the fact that the term (Israel) is mentioned 41 times (this does not apply to the Arabs or other nations) to describe Jacob and his descendants; of course, the twelve sons of Jacob/Israel (including Joseph) are the patriarchs/fathers of the Israelite tribes which multiplied in Egypt until the era of Moses and continued to exist and multiply in later eras after the exodus.
5- The Quran does not have one general rule about all of the People of the Book; the Lord God's judgment regarding them is based on their deeds. By the way, we have proved in our previous writings that unlike the modern usage of the term (Jews), the Quranic term (Jews) refers ONLY to the disobedient, disbelieving ones among the Israelites; the Quran tells us about some Israelites who include pious forerunners and those who mixed good deeds and sins. You should ponder the following Quranic verses which contain permanent facts about the People of the Book: "They will do you no harm, beyond insulting you. And if they fight you, they will turn around and flee, then they will not be helped. They shall be humiliated wherever they are encountered, except through a rope from God, and a rope from the people; and they incurred wrath from God, and were stricken with misery. That is because they rejected God’s revelations, and killed the prophets unjustly. That is because they rebelled and committed aggression. They are not alike. Among the People of the Book is a community that is upright; they recite God’s revelations throughout the night, and they prostrate themselves. They believe in God and the Last Day, and advocate righteousness and forbid evil, and are quick to do good deeds. These are among the righteous ones. Whatever good they do, they will not be denied it. God knows the pious ones." (3:110-115); "Among the People of the Book are those who believe in God, and in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed to them. They are humble before God, and they do not sell God’s revelations for a cheap price. These will have their reward with their Lord. God is swift in judgment." (3:199); "Had they observed the Torah, and the Gospel, and what was revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed amply from above them, and from beneath their feet. Among them is a moderate community, but evil is what many of them are doing." (5:66); "But those among them firmly rooted in knowledge, and the believers, believe in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed before you; and the observers of prayers and Zakat, and the believers in God and the Last Day - upon these We will bestow an immense reward." (4:162); "Say, “Believe in it, or do not believe.” Those who were given knowledge before it, when it is read to them, they fall to their chins, prostrating. And they say, “Glory to our Lord. The promise of our Lord is fulfilled.” And they fall to their chins, weeping, and it adds to their humility." (17:107-109); "You will find that the people most hostile towards the believers are the Jews and the polytheists. And you will find that the nearest in affection towards the believers are those who say, “We are Christians.” That is because among them are priests and monks, and they are not arrogant. And when they hear what was revealed to the messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears, as they recognize the Truth in it. They say, “Our Lord, we have believed, so count us among the witnesses.” “And why should we not believe in God, and in the Truth that has come to us, and hope that our Lord will include us among the righteous people?” God will reward them for what they say - Gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will stay forever. Such is the reward of the righteous ones." (5:82-85); it is the same division into three groups for Quran-believing people: "Then We passed the Book to those of Our servants whom We chose. Some of them wrong their souls, and some follow a middle course, and some are in the foremost in good deeds by God’s leave; that is the greatest blessing." (35:32); it is the same division into three groups for all human beings upon their death (see the context 56:83-96) and on the Day of Judgment (see the context 56:7-46).
Lastly:
It is a shame that the culture of slaves makes some people forget the greatness of the Holy Quran!
