A call for all free minds, defenders of freedom, and human rights activists:
We call upon you to try to save Mr. Amr Tharwat–one of the Quranists imprisoned in Torah prison in Cairo, Egypt. Amr was tortured and electrocuted by the State Security officers in Shubra Al-Kheimah right before being transferred to Torah Prison. This torture resulted in breaking the bones and cartilage of Amr's nose, a clot in his leg, and painful swelling and pyemia, a condition where the tissue is badly infected, in his right leg.
The doctor in charge at the prison refused to treat Amr or to transfer him to a medical treatment facility, which resulted in the disfigurement and permanent deformity of his nose. The clot in his leg is much more dangerous and may lead to total paralysis of the leg. If the wounds, swelling, and pyemia in his right leg are not treated immediately, Amr might be forced to have his leg amputated.
During the Court hearing, family doctors prescribed Amr some medicines to help control the symptoms, and help with the pain of the clot and swelling, but the officers on duty refused to allow him to get such medicines, further threatening Amr's life.
We strongly urge you to do what you can to pressure the Interior Ministry, the Torah prison warden, and the State Security officers (situated inside the prison) to transfer Amr to the specialized doctors to perform the needed surgeries to save his life.
We consider the Egyptian Interior Minister (Habib Al-Adly), the prison's warden, the prison's doctor, and the State Security officers of Shubra Al-Kheimah and their assistants, personally and professionally responsible for the torture of the detained Quranists generally and Mr. Amr Tharwat specifically
