The [Egyptian] State Security Agency arrested two relatives of Dr. Ahmed Subhy Mansour, the founder of the Quranists movement, for their online writings. The International Quranic Center’s statement said that the security forces came to Abu-Hariez village in Sharkia district, where Dr. Mansour's extended family resides. They arrested Mr. Reda Abdelrahman Ali, a relative of Dr. Mansour who is an Islamic reformer and teaches at Al-Azhar schools and publishes his articles and researches on many online websites, including them Ahl-Aquran website, the voice of the International Quranic Center. They also confiscated his computer. The force also arrested Mostafa Kamel Mohamed, who lives in the same apartment Dr. Mansour used to live in before immigrating to the U.S. The statement also confirmed that these arrests are continuation of the systematic policy of harassing, intimidating, persecuting Quranists in Egypt, especially those who are related to Dr. Mansour. The Center finally considered the Interior Minister personally responsible for the safety of Dr. Mansour's family in Egypt, and called on the Egyptian authorities to stop taking innocents as hostages to stop peaceful reformers from continuing their journey.

Adel Ramadan, the director of the legal affairs of the Egyptian Initiative for Individuals’ Rights, and the lawyer of the arrested, said that so far no one knows where the arrested are, considering these arrests another episode of violating freedom of faith in Egypt. Finally, Adel requested that the General Prosecutor investigates the reason for such arrests.
