An army officer was killed in an armed attack on a military vehicle in Arish's Masaeed area, a security source said.
Officer Abdallah Shaaban was killed, the source added, while three recruits were also injured in the assault.
Gunmen fired heavily at the army vehicle which was carrying officers and recruits to Masaeed.
The three injured recruits have been named as Ahmad Ismail, Hassan Ali and Nasser Ramadan, according to sources.
