Clashes involving shotguns erupted on Thursday afternoon between supporters and opponents of deposed President Mohamed Morsy in the Sidi Bishr district of Alexandria.

According to Akhbar El-Youm newspaper, security forces were able to get the situation under control.

Dr. Sherif al-Agamy, director of East Hospital, said three people were killed and more than 50 others injured with gunshots and live bullets, of which four were moved to the better-equipped Amiri Hospital.

More than 3,000 Morsy supporters had been marching on the Corniche to protest the clearing of the Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda sit-ins in Cairo.

The march caused traffic to be disrupted on the Cornish in Alexandria, after the demonstrators cut off the road for several minutes only to decide to go a number of streets east of Alexandria.

The Health Ministry has estimated the death toll since the clearing of the sit-ins began to be 525.
