5.0 earthquake hits South Sinai, felt in Cairo

The National Institute for Astronomical Research measured today an earthquake in South Sinai that registered a magnitude five on the Richter Scale. The earthquake was felt in Cairo.
 
The institute's head, Hatem Ouda, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the earthquake occurred at 1:49:29pm local time, registered a five on the Richter scale, and had a depth of 15 kilometers.
 
The coordinates of the earthquake's epicenter were 28.44'N 33.14'E, or 150 kilometers north of Hurghada and 50 kilometers from the city of Tur, Ouda said.
 
He explained that the earthquake was felt by citizens from South Sinai and the Red Sea coast all the way to Cairo governorate.
 
The institute has not yet learned of any damages or casualties, describing the earthquake as moderate in strength.
