While demonstrations, arrests and protests continued in the provinces against security services preventing opposition and Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidates from submitting their nomination papers in the local elections, MB and independent candidates sharply criticized the government through urgent statements in Parliament against what they called an aggressive campaign against them.

MPs held a press conference in front of Parliament yesterday to denounce the exercise of all forms of bullying and harassment against MB candidates.

MB Bloc Secretary-General Said Dr. Saad Katatni said that the human rights violations that happened during the nomination process make international organizations and institutions criticize Egypt.

MB deputy Sobhi Saleh said: "It's too much. It is not proper for a government to use thugs and beat the candidates."

Independent MP Gamal Zahran said: "This confirms that there will be no competition in the elections."

Meanwhile, there were four vigils in Kafr El-Sheikh and one demonstration in Alexandria, and MB announced that its candidate was kidnapped from his home in Sharkia. Also security forces have cordoned the court of Shebin El-Kom in Menoufia and the Municipality Headquarters in Dakahlia to prevent the 'Tagamu' Party
