CAIRO: Al-Azhar Professor Osama Abdel Azim claimed that any Tahrir Square demonstration is a religious taboo. Abdel Azim said demonstrations are disobedience of authority’s role and prohibited by Islam.

The Salafi Professor said during the demonstrations, there were cases of sexual harassment and the youth did not perform the ritualistic prayers, in a symposium at Al-Azhar University dormitory.

Abdel Azim said Egypt did not witness change after the January 25 Revolution since the former National Democratic Party “cronies” were dissolved to be replaced for other corrupt figures, and the State Security Investigation Service (SSIS) is the same body but with a different name.

Abdel Azim said belonging to a specific religious group goes against religion because it is considered type of dispersion. He quoted a Quranic verse, “As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part in them in the least: their affair is with God: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that they did.”
