Fugitive Egyptian businessman Hussein Salem has landed on Interpol’s ‘Wanted’ list. The international police force published Salem’s personal information and issued an arrest warrant. The website states Salem was born in 1933, is 77 years old, and that his arrest warrant was issued by Chancellor Hisham Badawy of Egypt’s higher state security prosecution.

Salem left Egypt on February 3. His case was transferred to the criminal court to be tried for crimes of deliberate harm to the state, misuse of public funds and financial violations involving his activities in the export of Egyptian gas to Israel.

Salem sold the gas at prices significantly lower than global market value, leading to major losses for Egypt and damaging Egypt’s public finances.

Earlier this week, Egypt’s former Minister of Trade Mohamed Rachid was added to Interpol’s wanted list
