Call for papers submission
The new RN 34 ŒSociology of Religion¹ invites papers for its first
Research Network sessions at the
European Sociological Association (ESA) Conference to be held in Geneva,
September 7-10, 2011
(http://www.esa10thconference.com/).
session RN 34 Sociology of Religion : The Changing Role of Religion
Convenors: Hubert Knoblauch, Anne-Sophie Lamine, Bernt Schnettler
The RN aims at contributing to a truly European discussion on the state
of religion in Europe, thereby also providing a forum to the various
research endeavours on the European level. In doing so, it wants to
allow for the diversity of voices particularly of European sociological
approaches to the Sociology of Religion and to address the immense
variety of the religious situation in the different European societies.
In relation to the general theme of the ESA conference, ³Social
Relations in Turbulent Times², we want to invite papers focusing on the
changing role and status of religion in contemporary societies. The
topics include:
- The Transformation of Contemporary Religion
- Religion in the Public Sphere
- Religion and Ethnicity
- Changes of Religious Organization
- Dynamics and Transformation of Beliefs
- Religion and Emotion
- Religion and Social Theory
- Religion and Migration
- Religion and Culture (in cooperation with RN Sociology of Culture)
- Qualitative Religious Research (in cooperation with RN Qualitative
Methods)
We particularly encourage young researchers to present their research
findings.
The deadline for proposals is 25th February 2011. Notification of
acceptance will be given by 6th April 2011.
Abstracts should have no more than 350 words (or 2000 characters ). The
form also requests authors to submit up to 5 key words that are
indicative of the content of the proposed presentation. Title, abstract
and keywords will have to fit within these limitations. Tables, figures
and references should not be included in abstracts. They must also
include: 1) name (s) and affiliation (s) of the author(s); 2) contact
details of presenting author (postal address, email address); 3) title
of proposed presentation.
Abstracts can only be submitted online at:
http://www.esa10thconference.com/submission.php (submission in any other
form will be declined)
Other informations on the RN also available on :
http://www.europeansociology.org/ (-> research networks on left menu).
For any queries about this session, please contact:
Hubert.Knoblauch@tu-berlin.de or anne-sophie.lamine@misha.fr or
Schnettler@uni-bayreuth,de
We also encourage you to become a member of ³your² Research Network(s).
Starting now for the period 2011-2012 and onwards, ESA members are
invited to become formal members of one or several research networks.
Each membership costs a symbolic amount of 10 Euros for two years (which
can be payed together with ESA membership fee). The status of a research
network will depend on how many paying members it has. To keep the
status of an ESA-RN, a research network must have a minimum of 25 ESA
members. The full amount of membership fees goes directly to the RNs and
is transferred together with the midterm conference funding (to reduce
transfer costs).
We look forward to your abstracts. We look forward to meeting you in Geneva
We would be also very grateful if you could distribute the call to
persons or networks interested in the topic.
Best regards
Hubert Knoblauch, Anne-Sophie Lamine, Bernt Schnettler
