More Demonstrations against Bush's Visit to Egypt

There have been more popular rejection demonstrations against Egypt hosting the American President George Bush, who has arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh yesterday evening to meet with President Hosni Mubarak.

The freedoms committee of the Press Syndicate has organized a massive demonstration in front of its headquarters, linking inflation and corruption to what the demonstrators called American fascism and imperialism in the region, and considering hosting Bush in Egypt an act of disgrace and betrayal.

A dozen Muslim Brotherhood (MB) parliamentarians have demonstrated in front of Parliament in protest against the visit, describing Bush as a war criminal for killing Palestinian children and civilians, and for the occupation of Iraq and his blind bias for Israel.

Opposition parties in a conference held at the Nasserite Party headquarters yesterday rejected the visit and considered it a manifestation of the Zionist-American plot to establish the Jewish State at the end of Bush's term, emphasizing that the visit aims to destroy Arab cohesion and strengthen Israeli domination in the region.

In a related development, all majority, opposition, MB and independent MPs have rejected hosting President Bush in Egypt, whom they called a war criminal, and have demanded - during the parliamentary session yesterday - the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador in Cairo and the withdrawal of his Egyptian counterpart from Tel Aviv, in response to the assassination of Egyptian Citizen Hamidan Sweilam by an Israeli tank on January 3rd.

Cairo's downtown area has witnessed heavy overcrowding last night, which a security source attributed to security enhancements in preparation for demonstrations and protests against Bush's visit, and to a few traffic accidents, including four public transport buses that have blocked the 6 October Bridge exit to Galaa street.

In an unusual precedent, President Hosni Mubarak will meet this morning with President George Bush at the latter's quarters at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Al-Masry Al-Youm has learnt that the reason why the meeting will be held at the hotel instead of the presidential headquarters was due to the huge number of security accompanying the American President and of foreign personnel who have come to cover the visit, which the presidential headquarters there cannot accommodate.
