The Alliance of Egyptian Americans (AEA) held its 5th annual conference, Sept 17-20, 2010 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland entitled; “The Horizon for Peaceful Transition toward Democracy in Egypt: The Forthcoming Presidential Election–Challenges and Opportunities”

The conference focused on ways to open up the clogged political process and secure “free and fair” Presidential elections in Egypt.  Participants deliberated ways to empower Egyptians to: change Article 76 of the Egyptian Constitution; restore Egyptian voters’ confidence in the forth-coming Egyptian Presidential election; examine the possibility of forming an independent election commission and to insure “free and fair” election process.

The conference was attended by the Egyptian American Community intellectuals, and political and public opinion leaders from Egypt and the US including the Egyptian Democratic Front Party, the Popular Campaign to Support Elbaradie , The Egyptian ELGhad Party, My Vote is My Demand Movement, the Egyptian American Friendship Association, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Project on Middle-East Democracy, Al-Ahram Newspaper, Almasry Alyoum Newspaper.  In addition leading Egyptian  political  Figures, Dr Mohamed ElBaradie, Dr Abdelmonem Abo-Elfoutouh, and Dr Elsayed Elbadawi each sent to the conference a video-taped message.

AEA is a US based non-profit, non- governmental organization dedicated to empowering Egyptian Americans and to promote true democracy, sustainable development, and social justice in Egypt.
