Gamal Mubarak and the Discord in Egypt 's Ruling Elite
http://carnegieendowment.org/arb/?fa=show&article=41490
Whether Gamal Mubarak will be the ruling National Democratic Party’s (NDP) candidate in the 2011 presidential election is one of the most discussed questions in Egypt today. Campaigns have sprung up in Egypt and abroad to collect signatures in support of his candidacy—an apparent attempt to counter similar campaigns in support of former International Atomic Energy Association head Mohammed ElBaradei, and perhaps to force the ruling elite’s hand—but they are a side show. Much more crucial will be President Hosni Mubarak’s state of health, the degree of unity within the elite regarding Gamal’s candidacy, and the future course of the country. For the first time in Egypt’s modern history, the business elite are playing a role in the succession question, but it is still not clear whether that role will be decisive.

[September 2, 2010 - 1:52 PM] Dear stephan Regarding your point of view and calculation of the balance of power in Egypt , i think you just disregarded a main stakeholder which is the people in Egypt .. And for actual and Accurate calculation the article discuss the day after mr. Mubarak regime under circumstances that still 20 % of Egyptians have the right to vote , and by then be sure that it will be mr. mubarak under any health condition .. But for any occasion that the election law changes and give all egp citizens the right to vote , we will be in front of plan B and in this plan you ll find an election between three other powers one is islamic radicalisme second NDP and by then it will be new liberal group candidate and third is the first generation of the public candidate ( who will come upon the decision of youth ) So i would like to learn more about your opinion if there is a plan B Marwan Youness head of political marketing committee Youth secreteriat - NDP

It is being defined as Mafia-type for this Mafia is presently ruling the country, so legally it is not an illicit organisation. On the other hand, as it has no REAL, TRUE mandate FREELY given by the population; NDP has usurped power. Neocon-Zionist America stymies growth of civil society in all Muslim and Arab countries. A manifestation of American induced retarded growth in civil societies is to make these societies lineal-descent worshipers: in purportedly democratic societies father must be succeeded by his progeny. Such American supported antics of the Mafia group called NDP violate both the Spirit of the Arabs and the Spirit of Islam. It is American support for Mafia type organizations in country after country (e.g. Egypt, “Saudi” Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, Occupied Iraq, Occupied Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Yemen, etc.) that is leading to radicalization of the populations who are suppressed and violated by the illegitimate usurpers of power who maintain their grip on power by America support.

"main stakeholder which is the people in Egypt" - the people of Egypt have never had a stake in their government. Ever. The current regime regularly returns Mubarak to the presidency with farcical levels of 'popular' support, practices massive electoral fraud and intimidation and so many Egyptians, even if they are registered to vote, do not bother. Look at the history - Egypt has only been ruled by Egyptians since 1952, and none of the governments since then have been democratic. Let the people decide.
