Yesterday, Security Services in AlSharkia attacked the house of Dr. Amhed Subhy Mansour, known to be the Godfather for the Quranists in Egypt, and currently living as an asylee in the United States. The Security Services took a lot of his books that were kept in the house.

Azhar Mansour, sister of Dr. Mansour, who lives in the same building in Abohariz village in AlSharkia said to AlMasry Youm that Wednesday night a police car came at midnight full of detectives wearing civil clothes, and they went straight to Dr. Mansour’s apartment, questioned her if he has come from the States or not, broke into the apartment, and found the books and kept a large portion of them.

This is the fifth attack made by the security services on the Quranists houses in Egypt during the last week. Also, four members were arrested, two of them are relatives of Dr. Mansour.

During a phone call with Dr. Ahmed Manour from the United States (where he has lived as an asylee since 2001), he said “all the secret service activities are focused on my family and friends. It seems like all the problems of Egypt have been solved and there is nothing that disturbs or bothers the officials except the writings and ideologies of peaceful people.” He added that “the Quranists are known for their attitudes against extremism and the Muslim Brothers, but not against the Muslim Brothers as people or an organization, but because they mix religion and politics,” indicating that “if the regime in Egypt can see clearly they would know that we are facing the Muslim Brothers culturally, from within Islam, making a point of what is right and what is not in their way of using Islam.” He also asked “Is this the way the regime should reward us for that? We have been persecuted since the 1980s until now.”

Mansour also added that all the books the SS took are books that are previously published and what he is doing right now is republishing on the internet so that it will be available for everyone for free. He said that he could use publishing houses in the States, but he would rather have his family members type it in order to help them, because of the poor living sitution they are in.

The lawyers of the arrested Quranists made a report to the DA accusing the Minister of Interior affairs of unlawful arrests of citizens and unlawful search of their houses.
